Orange Lutheran Issues Call for New Executive Director
Tom Gray ‘78, Chair of the Executive Director Search Committee
On Saturday, January 19, 2019, the Board of Directors officially issued a Call to Cole Braun to serve as Orange Lutheran High School's next CEO/Executive Director.
The Call comes after an extensive nationwide search conducted over the past four months. Cole Braun currently serves as the CEO/Executive Director of The Lutheran High School Association of Greater Milwaukee. Earlier in January, Cole and his wife, Jenny, visited Orange Lutheran for a five-day visit with many faculty and staff members as well as with the Board of Directors and others in the Lancers community. Bob Odle, Chair of the Board of Directors, informed Cole of the Board's decision, and Cole was very pleased and humbled by the Board's decision. Jenny and he will now prayerfully consider the Call, and Cole indicated that he hoped to reach a decision within about two weeks.
The Executive Director search began September 2018 after Orange Lutheran's current Executive Director, Todd Moritz, informed the Board he would be leaving his position at the end of this school year, June 30, 2019. A search committee was immediately established consisting of members of the Board of Directors, faculty, staff and the Lancers community. An open, fair and thorough search was conducted, with over forty men and women considered. The list was narrowed down to six primary prospects. Interviews with these six further narrowed the number to three, who were invited for on-campus interviews in December. The Search Committee then advised the Board that Cole Braun appeared to be the strongest candidate. The Board of Directors thereafter invited Cole and Jenny to Orange County for the extended visit in January and has now officially Called Cole to serve as Orange Lutheran's next CEO/Executive Director.
Cole has extensive experience both as a Lutheran school administrator and in the business world. During his five plus years as Executive Director in Milwaukee, Cole has dramatically increased enrollment at the three high schools in the association as well as greatly improving its financial condition. He has a proven record as an executive, fundraiser, and leader. He and his wife Jenny are active members of an LC-MS congregation near Milwaukee.
Please pray for Cole and Jenny as they seek the Holy Spirit's guidance in this difficult decision. We, of course, hope and pray that God will lead Cole and Jenny to accept the Call, but mostly we pray that God's Will be done.
2/4/19 UPDATE: While we are saddened to announce that Cole Braun has declined the call to become the next Executive Director at Orange Lutheran, we are excited for all the great things Cole is doing for Lutheran education in Milwaukee. Cole writes:
"I have been so blessed by and impressed with OLu and the entire community as Jenny and I went through this entire Call process. We have prayed about where God wants us to do His work and influence young kids to grow His kingdom. OLu is a tremendous place and I am honored to have been asked to consider leading OLu as your CEO.
After a significant amount of struggle, prayer, discussion, considerations, and more prayer, Jenny and I both feel that we are being Called strongly to stay in Wisconsin and continue the massive amount of work that needs to be done here at the Lutheran High School Association in Milwaukee. I am, therefore, declining the Call to become the Executive Director at OLu. That is a very difficult thing to say because OLu is an incredibly high performing High School and I would have been proud to serve you and the students at OLu as your CEO. I was so impressed by the leadership, the board, the students and the faculty and staff. God is doing incredible things in Orange County through OLu."
God be with you Cole! Please continue to pray for the Search Committee as they evaluate CEO candidates.
