Lazcano '09 named girls soccer coach

Missy Lazcano '09 will take over for longtime girls soccer coach Del Montell after his recent retirement from coaching.
--

Following the retirement of longtime girls soccer coach Del Montell, Orange Lutheran is pleased to announce that assistant coach and OLu alum Missy Lazcano ‘09 will assume the role of girls soccer head coach.

Lazcano is a native of Anaheim Hills and grew up with a strong passion for soccer. She was a 4-year varsity letterman on the girls soccer team at OLu and in 2006, her freshman year, she helped lead the team to a CIF title. Throughout the remainder of her years at Orange Lutheran, she was honored with two First Team All-CIF selections, one Second Team All-CIF selection, two OLu Offensive Player of the Year awards, and was named the 2009 Trinity League Offensive Player of the Year. After graduating in 2009, Lazcano received a scholarship to play soccer at Southern Utah University. In 2014, she graduated with a double major in exercise science and athletic training.

After college, Lazcano began her coaching career. She was the girls junior varsity soccer head coach at OLu for two seasons before serving as a varsity assistant this past season. She also conducts private soccer lessons, and assists with the Slammers FC club soccer program.

Lazcano has extensive knowledge and experience in the sport and is excited to bring her enthusiasm and love for soccer to the girls varsity program at OLu. She believes her previous years as a Lancer coach have helped prepare her to lead the varsity program and she is grateful to have the opportunity to coach at her alma mater. Lazcano is committed to teaching the girls the core values of Christian character and feels blessed to coach at a school that puts Christ first. In working with varsity athletes, she intends to teach her players how to have a strong work ethic, play with respect, and lastly, enjoy the game.
