OLu alums cross paths while deployed

Scotty Williams '09 & Hilary Thomas '08, who sang together in the OLu choir, experienced a chance encounter while serving in Iraq.

Orange Lutheran alums Scotty Williams '09 and Hilary Thomas '08, who sung a duet years ago on the Alexandra Nechita stage, recently crossed paths on the international stage.

Scotty is an Infantry officer in the 101st Airborne Division based out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and Hilary is an engineer officer assigned to the 1st Infantry Division based out of Fort Riley, Kansas. During a chance encounter, the two saw each other in the cafeteria during breakfast hours, while deployed in Iraq. They had not seen each other in eight years.

The duo became friends when they sang a "Summer Lovin" duet in the Lancer choir nearly 10 years ago.

Scotty graduated from West Point in 2014 and Hilary graduated and commissioned ROTC from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2013. Scotty also graduated Ranger in 2014 and Hilary graduated Sapper in March of this year.  Both are First Lieutenants.
Scotty will return to Kentucky in January and Hilary will return to Kansas in August.
