The OLu boys water polo team is hoping to add a CIF championship to the Trinity League title it won just a week ago.
The CIF-SS Divsion I playoff matchups were released on Saturday, and the Lancers are the No. 4 seed for the top water polo playoff division in the area, arguably in the nation.
In the first round, OLu will play host to San Marcos at Santiago Canyon College at 5 p.m. on Friday, November 9. The Lancers matched up with San Marcos once this season, on September 9, with OLu winning, 10-9.
The winner will face off with the winner of Corona del Mar and Mira Costa in the quarterfinals on November 12. OLu defeated CdM, 11-10, on Sept. 24.
As is the case with the competitive water polo scene in Orange County and in Socal as a whole, many of the teams in Division I have faced off during the season on multiple occasions. Of the 16 teams in the Division I bracket, OLu faced eight of them during the regular season, piling up a record of 7-3.
If the Lancers makes it to the semifinals of the playoff tournament, they could match up with No. 1 seed Loyola, a team they faced twice in the regular season.
OLu won both of those matchups, prevailing 11-7 on Sept. 10 and winning 20-11 on Oct. 5
If the Lancers advance to the finals, they will have the chance to win their first-ever CIF title after only the program's fifth year in existence. With a win over St. John Bosco on Nov. 2, OLu completed an undefeated Trinity League season, capturing its first Trinity League title.
