OLu Missions

Equipping and training students to express the love of Jesus and to glorify Him in their everyday lives.

Since 1998, thousands of Lancers have dedicated over 500,000 service hours across more than 15 countries on six continents. Each year, hundreds of students continue this legacy, sharing God’s love and the message of His saving grace as they serve both locally and globally, meeting the needs of communities near and far.

OLu Missions combines classroom learning with hands-on opportunities to make a meaningful impact. Students can engage in a wide variety of service experiences, including:

  • Construction projects and disaster relief efforts

  • Caring for the elderly

  • Working with children

  • Leading English and Bible lessons

Through these experiences, students not only strengthen their faith but also build lasting relationships and gain valuable skills for serving across cultural, religious, and national boundaries. OLu Missions equips students to be compassionate, effective servants of Christ in a diverse and changing world.

Class

The Missions Class is a four-year Theology elective that helps students explore how their faith intersects with real-world challenges and opportunities to serve. Each year of the curriculum focuses on a different theme, such as vocation and God’s callings, social justice, ecological responsibility, cultural intelligence, global communication, poverty alleviation, and community development. While the class is designed to build a foundation for meaningful service and prepare students for mission trips, it is open to all students regardless of whether they plan to travel. The Missions Class is ideal for students who care about people and want to live out their faith in practical, thoughtful, and globally minded ways.

trips

Mission trips offer students the chance to serve others while growing in their faith and building lasting relationships. Each year, students travel both domestically and internationally to partner with communities through hands-on service, worship, and outreach. Regular trips include serving the Paiute Tribe in Bishop, California, working with families in the Appalachian region of Kentucky, and leading Vacation Bible School on the island of Haida Gwaii in Canada. In Summer 2026, students will join school and well-building efforts in Uganda. Students participate in a wide range of activities including construction, teaching, community meals, and prayer. While the Missions Class supports preparation for these experiences, all students are welcome to join a trip beginning in their freshman year, with no prerequisites or prior experience required.

Local Engagement

Local Engagement invites students to serve right here in Orange County, where needs are great and opportunities to share Christ’s love are all around us. Through partnerships with churches and organizations, students support people experiencing homelessness, walk alongside youth in foster care, care for the elderly, and respond to other challenges facing our neighbors. These service experiences are often student-led and take place throughout the year, both on and off campus. They help students build empathy, grow in leadership, and understand the impact of faithful presence in their own community. As students care for others, they also develop resilience and a deeper understanding of themselves, fostering positive mental health and a heart of service shaped by Christ’s love.
