Lancer Service

SERVICE

Service at Orange Lutheran High School is defined as students sharing their time and talents serving the needs of others in their local, national, and international communities. Students are encouraged to individually serve others and their community but are not required to track and submit individual service hours. Students can choose to serve others through projects, trips, and engagements planned by individual programs, teams, clubs, groups, classes, and departments, as well as opportunities offered by OLu Missions or local congregations.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international relief organization. Their mission is to provide local partners around the world with shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies as a means of reaching out to children in their own communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ. These shoeboxes go to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine, and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S.

Orange Lutheran is dedicated to spreading the gospel message of Jesus Christ throughout the world. Through our involvement with OCC, we give our students and families a first-hand opportunity to play a part in the amazing work that God is doing. During our Fall Service Days, our students, faculty, and staff pack thousands of shoeboxes and collect donations of supplies.

SPRING SERVICE DAY

In the past, Spring Service Day has been Day of Dreams, which offers a day of fun, learning, and community to students with special needs. On Day of Dreams, students from the participating schools travel on school buses to Orange Lutheran, where they are greeted by OLu students and faculty, as well as balloons and decorations. From that point forward, the activities commence, including dancing, playing basketball, painting, lunch, and other activities with their assigned “buddy,” a current OLu junior or senior.

ORANGE LUTHERAN THRIFT SHOP

The Orange Lutheran Thrift Shop originally opened in 1969 and provides a substantial amount of financial aid for our students. Since 1998, more than $6 million has been raised for need-based aid, but this is only possible because of the work of our volunteers. As a condition of receiving financial aid, students and their families are asked to serve a minimum of 12 hours each school year at the Thrift Shop, but volunteers who are not receiving financial aid are always needed! Please call the Thrift Shop at 714-289-1182 for open positions or to learn more.

LOCAL ENGAGEMENT THROUGH OLu MISSIONS

There are multiple opportunities to serve locally through the OLu Missions Local Engagement program. Local Engagement projects are open to current students, their parents, and OLu alumni unless otherwise specified.

VOLUNTEER ON CAMPUS

Parent volunteers are needed year-round on campus. If you’re the parent of a currently enrolled student, join the group called “OLu Parent Volunteers” on ParentSquare for information and opportunities to serve and connect with fellow parents!
