Visual & Media Arts

We believe each student has a God-given ability to be creative. The Visual & Media Arts program at Orange Lutheran provides opportunities for all students to cultivate their creative talents and develop visual literacy and critical thinking skills.
With 18 distinct Visual & Media Arts courses, student engage in drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, design, photography, video production, and historical studies. Totaling over 4,400 square feet, the Visual & Media Arts facilities include two large studio classrooms, a dedicated sculpture patio with pottery wheels and electric kilns, an iMac computer lab with large-format printing capabilities, and two dedicated gallery spaces - the Nechita Gallery & Gallery500Students and professional guest artists exhibit their artwork in rotating exhibitions throughout the year, celebrating creativity and visual culture in the Lancer community. 
Orange Lutheran students have been recognized for their creativity and craft. Since 2013, Santa Ana College has selected Lancer students' artwork for exhibition in the Annual High School Invitational Art Show in downtown Santa Ana. In 2014, the OC Register named Katie Jernigan ('14) the Outstanding Artist of the Year, and Lancer artists have been named in the Top 10 Artists every year since the recognition began.  On average, more than 95% of students who take AP Studio Art earn scores of 3 or higher on their AP Portfolio. Recent graduates have gone on to study at the nation's top art colleges including Laguna College of Art & Design, Otis, Parsons, and RISD. 
Student-artists are encouraged to join the Arts Academy at Orange Lutheran where they can practice their craft in open studio sessions, fuel their inspiration in masterclass workshops, and hone their creativity in local internships.  Students who earn a Visual & Media Arts Academy Endorsement will be well-prepared for entering top art colleges or careers in the arts.

Founded in 1973, Orange Lutheran High School is a comprehensive private Christian co-educational college preparatory high school, grades 9-12, that exists to help students internalize the gospel message of salvation in Christ Jesus.
