The on-campus Internship Program provides students with a tremendous opportunity to gain real-world experience and learn more about careers and professional life.
Students are challenged to undergo an application and screening process which is intended to mirror the experience one would encounter during a job search, including the submission of a resume and cover letter. Applicants are selected based on their commitment to the stated internship goals and time requirements, the quality of their character, and eagerness to be mentored by a professional in their chosen career cluster. Although some internship positions require previous experience and a foundation of knowledge and education, all students are encouraged to apply and gain the experience they will receive from going through the process of applying and interviewing for an internship position.
All interns will be provided with the training and mentorship necessary to be successful in their position. Internship providers are selected based on their commitment to mentoring students and cultivating skills that can be utilized in post-secondary education and career advancement. Students will work with their mentor and the Director of Career & Internship Program to create S.M.A.R.T. Goals (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, tangible). These goals will be evaluated and tracked throughout the duration of the internship, culminating in a review and exit interview which will provide constructive feedback of internship performance. Additionally, every intern will have a formal job description, documented service, and measurable outcomes that can be “taken with them” when seeking future internship and career opportunities.
