With the start of the academic year comes a new season of the arts at Orange Lutheran. Beginning this month, OLu’s stages and galleries open with a lineup of performances and exhibitions that celebrate Lancer student artists and their creative expression across multiple disciplines.

Fall Vocal Concert

Alexandra Nechita Center for the Arts   |  Wednesday, October 8 – 7:00pm

This year’s performance series at the Alexandra Nechita Center for the Arts kicks off with the Fall Vocal Concert, a vocal performance spotlighting OLu’s curricular choirs and extracurricular ensembles.

During this collaborative night of music, Concert Choir, Honors Choir, Honors Women’s Chorus and the Creative Worship team, along with Vocal Jazz and Bel Canto performance ensembles, will come together to guide the audience through a repertoire that includes a collection of classics, jazz numbers, 80’s rock and gospel music. The student vocalists will be backed by a professional band that will feature an OLu student musician on electric guitar. 

The Fall Vocal Concert marks the beginning of an exciting year of performances at OLu, and everyone is invited to enjoy an evening of inspiring music as these vocal artists showcase their talents on the Nechita stage.

 

Fall Visual Arts Show

Orange Lutheran High School - Gallery500 and Gallery600  |  Wednesday, October 22 

Gallery500 presents the Fall Visual Arts Show, featuring the work of OLu art students from across a full range of disciplines. The showcase will include collections of original pieces in a variety of mediums, such as drawing, painting, photography, ceramics and digital media. 

The official opening of the show will take place Wednesday, October 22, at lunchtime, and the exhibition will remain on display for several weeks, offering fellow students and visitors plenty of time to celebrate the creativity and talent of OLu’s visual artists.
 

Fall Musical – Catch Me If You Can

This month, nearly 60 OLu students will take the stage and work behind the scenes to bring the high-flying musical comedy Catch Me If You Can to life at the Nechita Center.

Based on the hit film and true story, Catch Me If You Can is the Tony Award-nominated adventure that follows teen Frank Abagnale, Jr. as he uses his charm, wit and imagination to successfully pose as a pilot, doctor and lawyer while evading FBI agent Carl Hanratty. Frank’s cross-country caper is told with the mid-century backdrop of high-energy dance numbers and a swinging score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

The charming, young con artist Frank Abagnale Jr. will be played by junior Kyle Monson, and the role of Carl Hanratty, the determined FBI agent chasing Frank, will be played by senior Corey Navarro.

Led by the OLu Arts team of Show Director Chelsey Everhart, Director of Choreography Jennifer Blomquist, Vocal Director Stefanie Deming and Technical Director David Bartle, this larger than life production will be full of music, mischief and fun for an audience of all ages.

 

Christmas at the Nechita – Instrumental Concert

Celebrate the start of the holiday season with OLu’s Christmas at the Nechita series, opening with a spotlight on student musicians at the Instrumental Concert.

Led by OLu Performing Arts Chair and Director of Instrumental Music Aaron Zeilinger, the Instrumental Concert will feature performances from OLu’s student Wind Ensemble, String Orchestra and Jazz Band.

As the culmination of a semester of rehearsals and preparation, nearly 50 Lancer student musicians will perform a selection of beloved Christmas classics, including Christmas carols mixed with jazz and a special rendition of “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” from Tchaikovsky’s holiday favorite, The Nutcracker. 

 

Christmas at the Nechita – Vocal & Dance Concert

Alexandra Nechita Center for the Arts  |  Saturday, December 13 – 2:00pm & 7:00pm

As a follow-up to the Instrumental Concert, Christmas at the Nechita presents the Vocal & Dance Concert, showcasing the talents of OLu student vocalists and dancers in a festive holiday performance.

Under the direction of Vocal Director Megan Carvale and Director of Dance Jennifer Bloomquist, and accompanied by a professional band, OLu’s performance choirs and ensembles and OLu Dance will be joined by Creative Worship led by Karissa Raebel.

Filled with traditional Christmas carols and other holiday classics, the program celebrates Lancer student artistry alongside ushering in the season of Christ’s birth.
