New York Yankees pitcher and OLu alumnus Gerrit Cole '08 was named the unanimous 2023 American League Cy Young Award Winner on Monday evening.  Cole was a finalist for the 3rd time in his career.

This season for the Yankees, he was 15-4 with a 2.63 ERA and 222 strikeouts. 

Throughout his decorated career, Cole has been a 6-time all-star, 2-time AL ERA leader, 2-time MLB strikeout leader, and once the AL wins leader. 

This past June, Cole was inducted into the Orange Lutheran Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the school's 5th induction class.  Read more about Coles's journey from OLu to the big leagues in this article by Jenelyn Cunningham Russo '88.
